Air and Sea show is Back! This weekend!

Its Back!!

The Air and Sea Show is back and its this weekend! I have been looking forward to this for a very long time! It has been years since it has been here. It had something to do with a contract with the City of Fort Lauderdale. If you have lived in Fort Lauderdale you will remember how big it used to be, (McDonalds and CBS would sponsor), and now its back and I can’t help but be excited. I get to take my kids to see and experience for themselves the beauty of this show.

Fleet Week

Its also Fleet Week and the ships should be docking in soon. We got to tour several ships last year. I missed the registration for this year, but with the show will make up for it.

We have to go early and pick a good spot, the beach gets packed real fast, and I want to get some good views!

Remembering!

One year I went and spent close to 6 hours on the beach watching the show. The very next day I was red as a lobster and got Sun Posioning. I swelled up so bad I didn’t look like myself. Couldn’t even go into work the next day. This year that won’t happen, plan on buying a beach umbrella.

Are you a Spin Class Fanatic?

Are you a Spin Class fanatic? If so, Tamarac Community Center is now offering a new spin class! You heard me! The class started February 29 and is offering 2 days a week:

Wednesday & Friday nights from 6pm to 7pm
Saturdays 10am to 11am

The fees for the time being are:

$8 residents per class
$10 non-residents per class

Now only 14 students per class, there are a limited amount of bikes available, you can sign in no earlier then 30 minutes before and they will give you a number to give to the teacher. Her name is Judy and she is great!

I did my first class on Friday night and as much as I wanted to get off that bike, she pushed me and encouraged me to go on. This was my first time cycling, and I managed to be able to get through the whole class.

So if you have been wanting to take a spin class then look no further, Tamarac Community Center is now offering it. Come and join us!

All Saint’s Carnival is Coming to Town

Get ready

Is that time of year again. When the famous All Saint’s Carnival comes to town. Usually its Valentine’s weekend, but this year it seems it is the weekend after.

Start date is Thursday February 16 through Sunday February 19.

The cost is as follows: Wristbands are $40.00 which is to last you the whole weekend and the booklets are $15.00. (Advance ticket prices until February 12).

The hours are as follows: Thurs. 4p.m.-10p.m., Fri. 4p.m.-11pm, Sat. 12p.m.-11p.m. and Sunday 12p.m.-10p.m.

If you are not familar where All Saint’s Catholic Church is, it’s on the corner of Hiatus and Oakland Park Blvd. Usually its cold the weekend the Carnival is in town, so I would suggest you carry a sweather with you. Its always given, always cold that weekend.

My family is looking forward to the Carnival this year. If you plan on attending let me know, stop me and say hello. Tell me what your favorite part of the Carnival it is for you. Do you have a favorite memory of it.

Do you have memories?

Back when I was going to Broward College, I had taken up a Photography class. One of my assignments included this carnival and I have such great night pictures with all the wonderful lights. And as a young child I remember teaching Sunday school and the youth group involved in putting together this carnival every year.

So here it is for another great year! Tell me your favorite memory. Would love to hear it. Look forward to seeing you there.

Celebrating the 4Th of July with Tamarac!

The City of Tamarac will be holding there annual 4th of July celebration. I go to it every year (if it doesn’t rain of course). Here is a little excerpt from their blog:

“Tamarac has been celebrating July 4th with a fireworks display for more than twenty years and the celebration is one of its most anticipated events. In addition to the visit from Uncle Sam and Betsy Ross, the festivities will include: a free concert featuring the band “Now & Then”; games and activities for the entire family; bounce houses for the kids; face painting; giveaways; and, of course, an incredible fireworks display. Refreshments will be available for purchase from the Tamarac Sports Leagues who use the event as a fund-raiser for the teams.” City of Tamarac

Do you have plans for the Summer?

So with school just about over in 2 weeks. Have you thought about what to do over the summer vacation? Man if you are like me with 3 kids, you will need to keep them occupied.

Last year I had compiled a few things to do, which I will list here. But during the summer, you can follow along to the things I plan on doing with the kids. Summer camps can get expensive when you have more then one child. So we don’t do summer camps. We put the kids in other activties, from the library to pools and parks. There is plenty to do without breaking the bank.

Have you been to Big Al’s yet?

Have you been to Big Al’s yet? No, then what are you waiting for! It’s only one of the main attractions of Tamarac, Fl. You enter the store and you walk into the selling section-

Fish tanks
Aquarium pieces
Fish foods
Water chemicals

But continue on and you feel you are walking into the sea! When you walk through the dark hallway you are surrounded by 2 huge fish tanks. On one side you have fresh water, and on the other you have salt. Take your prefrences, either way its beautiful. Continue on and there is another huge salt water tank. In this one you will find about 4 huge SHARKS, 2 very long EELS, and plenty schools of fish to choose from.

What is also great about this place— Its known for its FEEDING FRENZY!! This is when they feed the sharks. Every Tuesday night at 7pm, and Saturdays at 3pm. The tank gets surrounded by all adults and kids just to watch. I have a video clip from todays feeding down further. Take a look at some of these photos and let me know what you think.

Now all the fish that are in the smaller tanks are actually for sale. This place is a store not a musuem, but it sure looks like one. I have a big tank myself so this is one of my and my family’s place to go to, we add new fish every so often.

Here is the first salt water tank, it would be on your right. In here there are many rare fishes that you can’t find and these are NOT FOR SALE! But the kids would just love it. I know I do!

Here on your left is the fresh water tank. There are also some nice big fishes you never get to see. Having them in there is great!

Here you will find the other salt water tank with the sharks and eels. As you can see my husband and daughter are standing in front just watching them swim!

Here is where the tanks are to buy your fishes. There are rows of them. Corals, Live Rock, Vertebres (Lobsters, Shrimps, Crabs) and more!

In the back is a very nice water fountain with fresh water fishes Koi pond. Very nice fishes indeed!

This here is one of the large EELS in the tank. They were very active since feeding time was coming in a few minutes.

Here is one shark heading for some food.

There is also an other EEL nest to him but unable to see it from this angle.

As you can see here, we have 3 of the 4 sharks in the tank. They were very active, swimming as a school waiting for there feeding. When this store first opened up these sharks were very small and now have grown into these big fishes. I wonder how much bigger they can get. Usually only as big as the tank, since there are other sharks and fishes.

This is the 4th shark. I couldn’t get them all in one photo. One was swimming up ahead.
