Today was another horrible day. If you know what has been going on with broward county school transportation, they have been having a horrible start to the school year. For starters the bus passes came out very late, some families still had not received their passes. So Monday came and my kids only had passes for the morning bus not the afternoon. I told myself, well I am taking them in on Monday and picking up, so I won’t make such a big deal about it. But come Tuesday, I needed everything in place. So Monday afternoon, the front office stated we had our assigned buses and were set to go. I talked it over with the kids, and had them memorize their bus number. My mother in law was set to pick them up from the bus stop. I’m on my way home and its was 4:30 in the afternoon, I am calling my mother in law to see if the kids got home ok. She tells me, nothing as of yet. I said they should be there no later then 4:45. So time goes by and my phone rings at 4:45, its the school calling, it turned out that the bus never showed up to pick the kids up from school. I had to turn back around, almost home now and head out to the school to pick them up. I could not believe that the bus didn’t make it out there. In fact, as it turned out, it was much worse, make that FIVE buses didn’t show up! How could so many buses leave these students hanging? We are not talking about teenagers….we are talking about elementary students for heaven sakes! I was so angry I took it to Twitter, and I received a call from Sun – Sentinel. It’s still an on going problem with multiple schools. This is so unacceptable and someone needs to be held accountable for how bad this has turned out! This all should had been handled a week before school, so all the kinks were fixed before yesterday. Then on top of all this, my sons class does not have A/C, I repeat, NO A/C! So I called the school department and referred me to the maintance department. I was told that there were too many schools that are having A/C issues, that my class was the only one that was not working. I told them it was not an excuse, and that something needs to be done. What if it was your child that was sitting in a hot class, would you allow your child to sit like that? No you wouldn’t, find them a portable a/c unit until you can fix it. He calls me back, said he has a call out for a unit and is sending someone over to see if he can make it work on it until the part comes in. Sure enough, my son said someone came in to work on it and when I spoke with his teacher this morning they were still working on it. I was glad to hear they were doing something about it. So let’s see how things work out with the buses today, things better be better then yesterday. I will not have my kids go through that again. They will not like to see me angry!
