I believe that they do Marjory. Just like there are special inspectors for mold. If you call up for an inspector you can ask them if they specialize in Asbestos or if they don’t if they know who does.

What kind of inspector would you need to find out if you have asbestos? Our house was built in the 60s and we had it inspected before we bought it but I don’t think he checked for asbestos.

Ff homes or buildings were built prior to 1980, there is still a chance they may contain asbestos if no renovations or remodeling have been performed.

It can still appear in popcorn ceilings and/or roof-wall insulation. My parents home was built in 1978 and recently had a sample of the popcorn ceiling removed to be tested for asbestos. Also to keep in mind, asbestos that remains untouched or undisturbed does not pose any health risks as its fibers cannot become airborne unless touched or disturbed. Anyone who is unsure can have a sample tested by professionals or inspected by contractors.

If you are own a home that was built before 1980 and plan to perform renovations and are uncertain about asbestos, the best advice is to have it inspected by a professional. Hope this helps!
