Are you decorating for the Holidays? Home Holiday Safety!
- Make sure the ladder is in good condition and you are physically able to use it safely. Ladder should always be on a flat stable surafce.
- Lights should be in new condition with no frays, exposed wiring, shorts and not to many connections in one single outlet. Installing lights anywhere on the home should be hung with proper fasteners holding the wire as to not fall.
- Newer style bulbs burn cooler making them safer if they touch combustible material.
- Putting up the Christmas tree should be done the same way and always turn off before bedtime. Enjoy the holidays with family and not being in the hospital or worse.
Inspector’s Report – Maintaining your Dryer Ducts
Inspector’s Report
Dryer ducts are typically out of sight so that means out of mind as well. They can be up to 25 feet in length vertical or horizontal. Vertical ducts typically terminate above the roof line and can be subjected to extra moisture and other elements. The vent slot is very small as to keep wildlife out but can also restrict airflow due to lint build up at this location.
This is the first place that should be cleaned and dryer lint clumps removed to free up vent. If you do a high volume of laundry especially towels and linens/blankets it won’t take long for build up to occur. This build up over time reduces the dryer performance while increasing the risk of fire and operating costs. Loads that are taking longer to dry may not be the dryer but clogged ductwork.
When I conduct Home Inspections it is usaully worth noting on the report if I see large clumps of lint hanging from ductwork. Most homes I inspect are empty so there is easy access. When we clean dryer ductwork we use a scope to see inside to evaluate before and after. The whole procedure usually takes around 30-45 minutes and should include the dryer lint trap, dryer louvers and any lint on the floor. All this is done from the location of the dryer. The horizontal vents are treated in the same manner but are much easier because they terminate somewhere around the side of the home. Internet home remedies include a leaf blower. This not a good method as it sends a huge clump to the vent and clogs it worse than before.
For best results have it professionally done with the right equipment. Feel free to call or write me additional information.

Preventing Burglaries in Broward County
So today when I got home there was a door hanger on the front door. Seems as though BSO (Broward Sheriff Office) have been walking through neighborhoods. There has been an increase in burglaries in the daytime while many are at work.
The hanger goes on to say that many are dressing as repairman, or delivery drivers. What they do is knock on your doors and if you don’t answer they go around back and try to break in.
What you need to do is start taking precautions:
- Make sure your doors are locked
- The windows are secured
- Sliding doors put sticks in the slacks, this is so they can not pop the door off track
- They also say to leave a radio or tv on (not sure if I’d do that, bill will be through the roof).
If you see anything out of the ordinary to call 911. There is another number that could be called if you feel it’s not an emergency just something weird which is 954-765-4321.
Hope you all heed the warnings at take the necessary steps to stay safe!

Let’s hope they get it right this week!
As many of you know, last week was an impossible week with Broward County School transit. Many students were left stranded at many bus stops in the morning and many were left at school after dismal.
My children were the many that were left. On Tuesday I didn’t get a call till 5pm, when I arrived at school there were so many children sitting throughout the office and the staff giving them snacks just to hold them over, I took it to Twitter, and Sun-Sentinel contacted me on Wednesday at 4pm, and for the rest of the week, I decided to pick them up. As it turned out, a substitute bus was sent, but didn’t arrive till 4:30-4:45, when did they expect these kids to get home? So instead I picked them up.
Till this day I am still not sure what the issue was, if there are not enough buses or what. I am hoping that whatever issue they were having the first week has been solved and that the kids can get home at a decent hour. It appears that they have hired more bus drivers according to the Sun-Sentinel.
I’ll keep you updated tomorrow, sincew we have no school today due to Tropical Storm Issac.

My kids are scared for their lives!
I have asked repeatedly to the city to have someone come and look at this tree. This is mild, but when we were getting some bad wind gust, this tree looked as though it was going to snap in half. Where it would land no one knows.
At this point at do not know who else to contact, I have left messages for the city, the country club no one answers. It seems as though the only way someone will respond is when it does break and someone gets hurt! Why does it seem that is the only way any government officials react to? Why not prevent something from happening? Why would you wait I am it?
City of Tamarac is always saying how they listen to their residents. Well how about now? I’m talking, I have been down to city hall, told someone about this tree. Nothing has been done! Come on! Stop Stalling and get someone out here, NOW!

This needs to be fixed! NOW!
Ok City of Tamarac, I have called and left messages and have spoken with code enforcement about this stupid tree in he back of my house. This tree sits on the land of the Woodmont Country Club.
Someone was supposed to come and take a look. I told them at the time I lived in a gated community. She asked me if she had permission to walk on the property since I wasn’t going to be home. I said yes, this needs to get taken cared of. I get a phone call the following day, that she was not able to get in because I live in a gated community and didn’t have the access code. Really? All the city people have those codes.
I can’t understand why this is such an issue. This is a dead tree and with the fact that we are heading into the peak of hurricane season something needs to be done. If this tree breaks and lands on my house and I have damages or any my children are hurt so help me you will not be happy on the way I will react!
Someone needs to be held liable, someone needs to come out whether it’s code enforcement or someone from the county club, I don’t care, just get it done.
Here is a picture of the tree behind my house. As you can see its directly behind my home so if this thing snaps and we incurred

and damages know that I WILL come after you for it!
There rant over!
