What do you mean no more paper?

Let me start from the beginning for you to understand the title. I am on the PTA board for Tamarac Elementary. This is my first year on the board, I sit as VP of the PTA.

The PTA runs the fund raisers for the school each year, which helps bring in extra money for the school, or which it intends to do. It also runs some of the extra curricular activites. One of the activies that our school does is called Sunshine Math. Which pushes kids t olearn more then what they are learning in class, almost one grade level up. My daughter loves it and has been doing it since last year. She came in third for her grade level and recieved a metal for it.

Now things were moving fine this year upto recently. I noticed she hadn’t gotten any papers for a little over two weeks. So I sent a text message to the president of the PTA and asked what had happen. There were 2 answers, 1. The kids are testing for the next 2 weeks, 2. Not enough paper and may have to be stopped till next year.

What? Not enough paper, how could that be? With all the tax changes for each county has made the school change the way they supple and supplement the money. One of the things that has to go will be no more copying of any papers, we are over the limit for the year. Now remember its only Febuary and have 4 more months to go. Now what is going to happen for the next 4 months? No homework packets, no more sheets of paper with class work? How are kids suppose to learn without the proper tools?

Now it might seem like I am making a big fuss over paper. But think about it, if it starts with paper, what will be next? What will they take next? This school has over 1100 students and is projected to be close to 1200 next year. How can we use the same budget with more kids?

I plan on going to Office Depot or Staples to see if they can discount on making copies for the school. I would hate for the kids to stop doing this program. Not just my daughter but the whole school.

Meeting Team England, Tamarac Youth Soccer

As some of you may know, I have been coaching youth soccer for the City of Tamarac. The Division I coach is U6, which are players under 6 years old. So we are talking about 4, 5, and 6 year old players.

I have to say that it has been an experience like no other. I had never played, nor coached before so this was a first. We had coaches clinic to teach us about the game. Now trying to keep the attention of these children is not easy, but they have come such a long way and I have enjoyed coaching and teaching them.

Our first few games were losses and as the weeks have gone by they have gotten better. We have now lost 4 games, won 2 games and have tied 1. So we are almost even here.

So here is a picture of the Team Players, and in the next few days you will see some other pictures of the team.

Coaching Tamarac Youth Soccer

My children are going to be playing there second year in Soccer. Last year they played on Team Mexico. Registration began in September for the 2009-2010 season. The President of the Soccer was our team coach for my kids. So when we went to get the kiddos signed up he asked, Can you coach this year? Me coach, are you nuts? I have no training in soccer. Now I am a big sports person. I love all types of sports. He tells me that they will be giving training for the coaches.

My response was, what the heck, why not, I am going to be there anyways, sure I will do it. Big smile I get from Coach Joe. Filled out my papers, got them notarized and got my coaching badge. I have done some training drills they had for the coaches.

My team is Team England and I have 8 team members. Our first game is on December 12 at 12 O’clock. I am looking forward to this game and at the same time very nervous.england

So look for post on Sundays since our game days are on Saturdays. Whether we win or lose, you will see pictures and totals. This is going to be a fun and exciting season. Come and follow along!

Go Team England!!

Are you looking for Christmas Trees?

fraser_fir_artificial_christmas_treesWell if you are looking for Christmas Tree lots I have several locations for you!

In Tamarac you have one right off of University on the East side between Commercial Blvd and Mcnab rd. There is also Publix in the Midway Plaza in Tamarac on the Corner of University and Commercial Blvd on the West side.

In Coral Springs you have the Home Depot(which is where I usually buy my Tree from) on the corner of University and Atlantic Blvd on the West side. They have trees priced really good. Last few years I bought my Christmas tree and I usually buy a 9ft tree for about 60 dollars. Publix on the corner of Univeristy and Ramblewood is also selling Christmas Trees.

In Sunrise you have the Home Depot again on Univeristy between Sunrise and Oakland. Then there is Lowes on the Corner of Univeristy and Oakland Pk Blvd. Publix on the corner of Oakland Pk Blvd and Nob Hill.

If you notice that most of the places I have mentioned are mainly right off of Univeristy Drive. So take a drive down this road and you will pretty much run into any of these places. But my honest opinion to find a great tree for a great price is at the Home Depot! The Tree lots are usually are priced on the higher end.

Happy hunting and let me know where you found your tree at and what you thought of the lot.

Happy Holidays to you and your Family!

It’s that time of year again!

pink-clockThat’s right you heard me it’s that time of year again. Daylight savings time is here! We are falling behind! We change the clocks one our behind….. It’s this Sunday, November 1st. Usually you do it at 3am back to 2am. But I usually do it right before I go to bed. I know me, I would forget to change it in the middle of the night and Iwouldn’t want to run late.

Now this is the perfect time as well to change the batteries in the Fire Alarms in the house. You may notice some weird beeping coming from the house or a very loud pitch for about a minute. That is a sign that the batteries need changing. I just went through my house and changed them. It only takes about a minute maybe a little more depending on how many you have. They take 9volt batteries. It room should have one in front of the doorway. So if you have a 4 bedroom house, know that you will have 4 fire alarms and possibly one more in the kitchen.

Well hopefully you don’t forget to change them… Take care and enjoy…

I had a wonderful time and those garlic crabs just melted in your mouth! If you love seafood and if you really love crabs this is the place to go..

If you do let me know what you think. I am telling you, you will not be disappointed!

Keeping Kids Safe

August 26, 2009 by admin

Well the start of the new school year is already on its way. And the safety of our children is the number one priority.

I live minutes from the school so I walk my daughter every morning and afternoon, as I was leaving in the morning the SRO (Safety Resource Officer) was handing out some flyers to the cars in the car pool lane. And it got me curious as to what he was passing out. It was a list of how to keep our kids safe. I will share it with you..keep in mind that it based off of the walkers (kids walking to and from school).

Please share this with your kids. You may think they are young, but trust me they know more than you think they do.

  • Discuss the safest route to and from school or to the bus stop.
  • Encourage your children to walk with friends, not alone.
  • Tell children toavoid places that could be dangerous and notify an adult about anything that doesn’t seem quite right.
  • Map out the route you helped your children select.
  • Talk about why it is safer to cross at the crosswalks.
  • Walk along with your children on the safest route you’ve helped them select, so they become familar with it.
  • Help your children understand how important it is to cooperate with deputies, school safety patrols and adult crossing guards.
  • Teach your children to STOP, LISTEN, AND LOOK for approaching and turning vehicles, especially those turning on the red.
  • Make sure they know to walk, not run across the street, and they still look to make sure no other car is coming.
  • Encourage and praise them for following the guidelines.
  • And the biggest one of all, remind them to never go with strangers, they should run the other way!

I hope you have a great school year!!!
