Do I need HomeOwners Insurance?

Every once in a while a question is asked whether or not a homeowner should or should not get homeowners insurance. Now living in Florida I would always say yes. But let me break it down for you.

Homes with Mortgages

When you purchase a home with a Loan from a bank, you have no other choice, you MUST get insurance as well as flood insurance. Its mandatory, and if you don’t get it they will assign one to you at a much higher price range.

What if I don’t have a Mortgage?

Now if you own your home out right, no mortgage, no home equity line of credit, then no, you don’t need to get insurance. But my opinion I believe you should continue to keep your insurance.

In case of a hurricane appears and makes land, and if damages occur, your insurance kicks in. Now if you no longer carry your insurance because you felt that you didn’t need it, then the repairs will be yours and yours only to repair. There will be no assistance.

When our insurance have premiums, and usually are higher when there is hurricane damages, but its nothing compare to what it would be had you not have insurance.

Yes, insurance is expensive and lately even more with premiums at $3,000 to $5,000 depending on which insurance you have.

So do I actually need insurance?

So do you need it? Answer is Yes and No. But that will depend on you! I believe its worth the price you pay!

Learn How to Swim at Three Broward County Parks

Swimming Lessons

I know its only May, but summer is right around the corner, and with that comes beaches and pools. Kids will be going to summer camps and they will also be heading there.

Now living in South Florida, even after all the warnings, drownings still happen. Broward County are offering swimming lessons at several water parks. I did some calling around for prices.

The way they work is in 2 week sessions, Monday through Friday. Depending on the park will depend on the times, but they all charge the same, $50 for the 2 weeks, each night 30 minutes, Friday would be a make up day if one night gets rained out.

Registration begins May 5 for swimming lessons offered at three Broward County Parks –

The Learn to Swim Programs, for ages 2 through 10, will meet for eight lessons on Mondays through Thursdays, from Monday, June 11, through Thursday, August 16. Call the park of your choice to preregister today.

Fort Lauderdale Air and Sea Show 2012

Air and Sea Show Fort Lauderdale 2012 started off gloomy with thunderstorms, but the Thunderbirds blew them away with mighty jet engines. Fans came out in droves. Not a spot on the beach to sit if you didn’t get there early enough!

I am hoping that they come again next year! And even bigger, I am sure all the vendors did well today, bringing in great business! You found hotdogs, shish ca bobs, candy apples, model air planes and many more.

Big companies like Ford giving out FREE binoculars so you could see the planes up close! In all it was a great show and if you didn’t get to make it out on Saturday, I hope the rain stops long enough for you to see it today.

Air and Sea Show a Flying Success

The start today was rain and bad thunderstorms. All I could think was, there goes our plans for the Air and Sea show. We were up at 5am this morning, my husband took the dogs out and saw all the clouds outside, minutes later, lightening appear and then came the thunder. That woke the kids up and we just looked at each other and said oh wells.

Couple hours later the storms started to pass and an update on Facebook said they were going ahead with the show. So we packed up and went. Found the perfect spot. Most people were charging anywhere from $15 to $20 dollars to park, even the Gallera Mall was charging $20. We drove around and we found a street with plenty of parking and no one charging! Yes we thought to each other!

We had to walk over the bridge since its the farthest we could go, because it was blocked off. We took the beach umbrella and the regular one, since the clouds were out in full. Took some time to find a spot to sit and watch the show, since we got there at 12pm right at the start of the show.

There were plenty booths, selling food and drinks, model air planes, army and navy apperal. Ford cars was there, if you filled out one of the slips you were entered to win one of the cars there, plus they handed out binoculars.

We were there for at least 2 hours, then the rain starting to come. We started to leave but got to see more of the show as we were walking to the car. Still was great!

If you were not able to make it out today, I hope you can make it tomorrow. If you still can’t make it out, I hope you enjoy these small clips I was able to get. Those plans are fast, and sometimes was not sure which way they were coming!
