What a horrible feeling!
I found out the other day that my site was hacked. Now just a simple little hack, real bad and turned out they were watching my key strokes. I almost died!!
How could this have happened, when did this happen, and could I have prevented it. Thing was, I didn’t even know I was hacked. The site was moving real slow, and my husband telling me you know if someone came to search for something they will leave. Well I know he was right.
I made a call to a friend to say I can’t figure out or understand why my site is moving slow. Is it the plug ins I have? Are there too many? She tells me let me check and get back to you. When she called me back and gave me the devastating news, I almost died!
Now what do we do?
She recommend a couple of guys that could fix, and maintain the site for me. I had to move quick. Turns out this happened at the same time as a local company was promoting me. I couldn’t have the site down now that I was/ am having increased traffic.
So I hire them, they have been working on it for 2 days straight, with issue after issue. I was afraid they were going to tell me they wouldn’t be able to correct the problem. We have had multiple phone calls back and forth.
Then this happens……
Now things started to move smoothly after majority of the files were finally transferred.
Then I get even more horrible news. None of the media files transferred. Huh? Really? Why? Not sure, we did it more then once and each time the file is empty! Oh goodness now what! The solution was to call the previous company to have them send me the upload file from the server. All my media should still be there. Ok, I tell them will call now.
Making the call……
I call and explain what happened and what I needed. The lady at the other end pretty much told me “oh well, you should have backed it up before you canceled with us”. WHAT! Are you kidding me! We did back up the files, they are empty! She then tells me well in order to. Restore the files we have to charge you $150 dollars. WHAT! Well she said, we have to hire a courier to get the files from our off site server.
This is crazy I tell her. She responded with, again you should have backed up the photos on your PC. I said look lady, the computer that had all the pictures was stolen when my car got broken into. She said there is nothing we can do. OMG you can’t be serious. She sure was!
I went to twitter and went on a rant like no other. I told them how horrible there customer service was and how I have spent money over the years, and now I finally need there help with something they want to charge me extra. Then you have the nerve to send me an email asking how was there customer service. REALLY!?! I went on how unhappy and how wrong they were for doing that, and couldn’t believe you would say it was my fault this happened!
Well they responded back on twitter asking how they could correct the issue? We want to help you. Really? You want to help me now? Now that I have gone on my rant, but you couldn’t help me when I was on the phone with you.
So we went back and forth, and them telling me they would research and get back to me. After all that said, they finally restored my media files and we were able to transfer them. I thank them for everything they did to get that to me!
My issue was that if I didn’t go on my rant on twitter I would have been out of years worth of photos! I should have not had to do what I did. But it got the job done and now the guys can get back to work on fixing the rest of it.
I can finally breath knowing that everything is back on track!
