It can still appear in popcorn ceilings and/or roof-wall insulation. My parents home was built in 1978 and recently had a sample of the popcorn ceiling removed to be tested for asbestos. Also to keep in mind, asbestos that remains untouched or undisturbed does not pose any health risks as its fibers cannot become airborne unless touched or disturbed. Anyone who is unsure can have a sample tested by professionals or inspected by contractors.
